Choose Your RE! Fuel Your Future
When I reached a certain age, my mail started changing. So did many of the phone calls I received. Suddenly, all these strangers became keenly interested in the plans for my future. They had plans for me as well, it seemed!
Then I noticed it began leaking over to friends and family. They, too, seemed to think I should be making plans. But, of course, they weren’t selling me anything. They used different words and phrases, but the meaning was clear.
There was a word they all seemed to be bringing up that wasn’t anywhere on my radar: RETIRE
I don’t think in terms of retirement at all. I’m with Betty White on this subject:
“Retirement is not in my vocabulary. They aren’t going to get rid of me that way.”
My “RE” words are quite different. They fuel my future instead of slowing it down.
What are they?
Here are my top five:
RE-IMAGINE – Don’t you love this word? Shouldn’t we all be doing this all the time?
Let’s continue to REIMAGINE our options and possibilities! They are continually expanding.
RE-CLAIM – This one is front and center for me and probably is for many of you. Sometimes, we need to pause things in our life or shift because of priorities, but it’s also good to RECLAIM those that matter to us. I’ve been thinking about many things I loved that I stopped doing, and I’m reclaiming them!
RE-IGNITE – When we REIMAGINE and RECLAIM what we want both now and in our future, it REIGNITES unlimited power for and in us. Our creativity, our energy, our enthusiasm, our joy. It turns them into fuel for life.
That brings me to the last two RE- words that are on my list:
REWARD – So much better than that other word. Life brings us rewards, and it has nothing to do with our age or season. Or ending anything! The key is to claim them!
REMOVE – Ah, the most essential RE activity of all! Whatever isn’t serving us, we can REMOVE! That’s important as well. Life pruning!
Let’s all claim the RE’s that fuel our future with what matters most.
When we do, we will be able to enjoy a meaningful life that ensures we are always living the legacy we want while making a difference every day.
