Color is Powerful
More than any tool in my design kit, color choice immediately sets the feeling of a project: Whether professional, playful, or purposeful, the strategy around color selection will further a brand’s personality in that little flash of time it takes to make a first impression.
Like every aspect of business today, the pandemic has had a profound impact on what we gravitate towards with color. Let’s look at three color palettes that have been identified by Pantone as strong trends for Spring/Summer 2021. A goal in developing these palettes was to identify hues that can work year-round and to reinforce our connection to nature.
Golden orange, the color of the sky, an earthy rust, sunshine yellow and a blue evocative of spring in Paris, the first palette (above) reminds us of healing and the inspiring colors found in nature. Each color holds a peaceful energy that helps invigorate our purpose as the world reawakens.
In the second palette, we see vivid, energetic colors that refresh and restore. The minty green - part of a resurgence of pastels - is soothing; the coral invites a feeling of conviviality and being around people - at last! The deeper green, amethyst and raspberry hues remind us of lively celebrations, and fortify our vitality.
The final palette delivers foundational colors that anchor design statements. Intended to transcend typical seasonal colors, the inky black, demure gray, buttercream, sand, and willow tones are striking on their own, yet pair beautifully with other colors as well.
