DON’T Buy the Latest Trend
At the beginning of every year and season I see and hear about the “it” trends to wear. For example, last week the printed headline was “VIP Nordstrom Stylist—These Are the Only 2022 Trends That Matter.” The article listed, knit everything (tops, skirts, dresses, and pants), sheer tops, preppy outfits, fringe everything (tops, sweaters and pants) and animal prints as what to buy this year.
I have nothing against knit wear but if you’re a woman over forty going through peri-menopause or menopause wearing knit pants, knit dresses, and/or knit tops may not work out so well. Same for sheer tops. Most of my clients over forty struggle with body image and are not confident with their bodies so they may struggle to wear a sheer or see through top.
If you love knits and are confident in your body then by all means go for it but keep in mind those pieces my not be in style next year or the year after. Or…you could choose to invest in an outfit or top that you love and can mix and match with two or three other outfits in your closet. When you shop you want to look for and purchase items that will expand your wardrobe not limit it.
If you google “latest trends” you will see the top trends for 2022 and in the top 10 are …
Y2K Fashion (bare midriffs and tight body hugging clothes in neon)
Tractor Trek-Sole Boots
Hot Goth
I am here to suggest you DON’T buy the latest trend, whatever it is, and instead purchase classic pieces that fit the body you have now. For example, instead of Y2K fashion think about adding neutrals in camel, navy, and white. They can be tops, layering pieces or bottoms. When you add a neutral piece to your wardrobe it adds to the versatility which gives you more outfits to wear.
Don’t buy the latest Hot Goth trend (whatever that is) and instead invest in every day staples like a graphic tee, a print blouse, a little black dress you can dress up or down, or a layering piece like a utility or field jacket that you can wear for two seasons or more.
Reach out if you don’t know where or how to start. I am here to help.
