In the Tree Tops of Business
At the beginning of the year, (pre-covid) I made a trip to the San Francisco area visiting clients as well as my daughter (convenient, right?!). We made a day trip to Muir Woods - a beautiful national monument within the National Park Service.
We stopped to listen to the park ranger talk about the coastal redwoods and what makes them unique. One of the points that struck me was his description of their shallow roots.
Wow - here is a tree, that can reach up to 370 feet tall, with shallow roots! How does it stand against the fierce wind and storms? His answer, it intertwines with its neighbors to create stability.
So let's take this lesson into business. How do the most successful people make it to the top? By collaborating (intertwining) with others. I'm not saying we don't need a strong foundation, because we do. But the lesson I was reminded of was to reach out in collaboration, connecting and intertwining with power partners, mentors, affiliates and more. It takes a village to grow anything, including your business. Plant your seeds and spread your roots. Create stability by working with others, not trying to stand tall all on your own.
A great reminder from nature.
