Wear the Bathing Suit

Let’s chat about wearing the bathing suit and being grateful for our body. Not the body you had, not the one you want, and not the one you’re going to have but the body you have right now.

Earlier this year, I surprised my best friend for her 50th birthday. It was a fabulous weekend of fun but a week before the trip her husband texted that I needed to pack a swim suit because we were going to be spending time on the lake.

I immediately panicked because I didn’t have a swim suit. I had literally just packed away my clothes for our move from California to Texas.  I also panicked because the thought of finding a bathing suit and being in one made me uncomfortable.

In that moment, I decided to shift from panic to being grateful for my body, for my friends, and for the trip.  Literally, that same day I found a suit!  I am a size 16 and finding a bathing suit that fits is no easy task. I changed how I was feeling by changing what I was saying to myself. My mantra became “I love my body,” “I am grateful for my body,” and “I am grateful and blessed for this opportunity to travel.”

Guess what? I loved the suit, it fit, and I decided that I would make it work. When the weekend arrived I repeated my grateful mantra and decided I would “walk the talk.”  You see, I encourage women daily, weekly, and monthly to be grateful for their bodies. I needed to remind myself, in that moment, of my own advice.  I wore the new bathing suit on the boat with… No cover up, no towel, and I decided not to hide.

I wore my new bathing suit all day and I was comfortable and felt beautiful. It was actually really freeing to not worry about what others thought. I was grateful for my body and I felt amazing.

When it comes time for a new bathing suit, or an outfit, look for what you love. Find something that makes you smile, feel confident, and beautiful. Be grateful for your body, the one you have now and don’t worry about your arms, your breasts, your stomach, or your legs.  It doesn’t matter what style you choose or if you are plus size, petite, tall, or short, find what works for you. Be grateful for your body no matter the size on your clothes or number on the scale and shine.
