Dreams Really Do Come True
As the YES I CAN Coach, I talk a lot about living your best life and reaching for your dreams. That is my personal wholehearted POV.
It's been 7 years since Susan Hunter first introduced me to what I think is the most magical place on earth, the Isle of Cumbrae and the town (the only town on the island) of Millport. If you have followed me for any length of time or know me personally , you know I spent 3 months living there in the summer of 2019 and have traveled back and forth a few additional times, staying for weeks at a time. From my very first visit on August 7, 2017, I felt a yearning to be here. And when I am here, I have a peace about me that is unexplainable. IYKYK.
During the 3 months in 2019 of living here, it was a time of renewal and change. My divorce had been finalized and I was in a season of rediscovery of myself. When I left at the end of that summer, I had agreed to purchase the place I had rented on the island with the intention of bi-continental living. But long story short, life happened and then the world shut-down and I wasn't able to complete the purchase. My dream, I thought, was shattered.
As I continued to visit and even bring a group of women on retreat in 2022, my heart was still called to the island. And when I met and married Mark, I shared stories about the amazing people and the place I called my Scottish home.
In September of this year, Mark and I traveled to Scotland, spending 2 weeks in Millport. And as luck (or alignment) would have it, he feel in love with the island as well.
On Friday 11/1, we completed the purchase of our Scottish home, a dream 6+ years in the making for me.
As the YES I CAN Coach, you know I am ALL about living your best life. But that also means doing the work that only you can do. For me it means trusting in God's timing, understanding that it won't always go "my way" and pausing to ponder and re-group.
I'm here for a few days - working remotely and sorting things in the flat, though the previous owners left it in sparkling condition. Only hiccup is internet service - which isn't yet set up and isn't looking likely this trip. (So - if you are trying to reach me, please be patient.)
Do you have a dream you are reaching for - outside your comfort zone and beyond your fears? A couple of ideas...
1. Never give up on a dream.
Truthfully, I had mostly written off the dream. Life had changed (in such great ways) and I couldn't imagine Mark loving it as much as I did and wanting to spend extended periods of time here. (oh ye of little faith! lol) But he did and we reached the dream together.
2. Have faith in the timing. You are not in control.
I was devastated when my previous purchase had to be released. I had thought it was perfect - and it was, except not perfect for me. This time, I bought it WITH my new husband in a place we agreed upon together, a totally different experience and in the right timing.
3. Ask yourself if the dream is in full alignment.
What do I mean? Is it a dream/goal that someone else has for you and you are just going along? Does it align with your values and life purpose? Does it align with your beliefs in your Higher Power?
4. Keep your dreams in front and center. Whether a vision/dream board or finding other ways to experience your dream (ie. I continued to visit the island and keep in touch with friends here), make a point of keeping the dream alive. Whether is a relationship, a financial situation, a new business, your health - remember to take the tiny steps that lead to potentially reaching pinnacle that either looks like your dream or something different but even better. (You can join me for my Dream BIG Workshop back in LA on Friday, Dec 13th!)
Bottom line ... take the steps necessary, that only you can take, to move forward towards your BIG dreams. I have so much more to say on this, but for now, I must get back to work on sorting things here in my new flat (apartment).
And by the way, YES... the retreat in summer of 2025 will be held in my living room in Scotland. (Can't believe I'm saying that.)
