What’s the difference between a LinkedIn profile and a LinkedIn Page?

Your Profile

Your profile is the more fixed of the two. It’s about you and your career experience, and enables you to tell the story of how you got to this place with your business.

This is also where you talk about your services and who your ideal clients are.

It uses your strong keywords to help people find you, your eye-catching banner and your photo.

You update it when something big changes, like the name of your business, when you change jobs or when your position in your company changes, necessitating the update of your keywords.

You can have both connections and followers on your profile. By default your connections are following you and you’re following them. You’ll have the ability to see each other’s posts on your Home pages.

Merely following someone on LinkedIn allows you to see the person's posts and articles on your homepage without being connected to them. However, the person you’re following won't see your posts.

 

LinkedIn Company Page

LinkedIn calls this the LinkedIn Page, but I find that too generic and easily confused with a profile, so I stick to its old name, the Company Page.

The Company Page is generally more about your products and services than it is about your story. This is where you can easily update your offerings, like when you debut a new service or product.

The banner here is a different size than the one on your profile, and though you don’t have a place for your photo, you do get to upload your logo.

The great news about that is that LinkedIn will automatically load your logo over to the respective company described on your profile. You won’t have that little gray square anymore!

You have 2000 characters to use here, so you can go into more detail about your services than you usually have room to on your profile.

Just remember not to get too wordy and to break up your paragraphs so the page doesn’t look like solid black to the reader.
