Resolutions vs Goals and Your Health
What is the difference between a resolution and a goal. A resolution is the overarching theme or the implied direction you wish to take with your life while goals are the activities that fall within the theme or the specific steps to take you to that place.
When it comes to your health, too many times our “resolution” to get healthier in the New Year leads us to either fall victim to overwhelm and not starting or going way too broad and not having small wins that lead to big success.
As a Yes I Can woman, you are well aware of the importance of goals. Today, I want to break down how to create SMART goals around your health; and help turn those Resolutions into actionable steps you can take.
Reminder: SMART stands for:
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Attainable
R – Relevant
T – Time-bound
So let’s break down our Resolution to get healthier in the New Year to SMART goals, starting with the #1 health goal in America that makes the top of so many resolution lists – to lose weight.
S – I want to lose 20 pounds within 6 months (the amount is specific and the time is too)
M – I will check my weight weekly on the scale (how it will be measured)
A – Losing 1-2 pounds per week is healthy weight loss, so losing 20 in 24 weeks is very attainable (very do-able)
R - …this is where I have clients add in additional points – they will add in 30 minutes of exercise 3 days per week, they will cut out all added sugar 6 days per week – these steps are relevant to making the goal attainable. Keep readying my posts this month for a 5 step action plan to do this – think small steps for big wins)
T – Weekly check-ins will measure weekly / monthly progress to get to the ultimate goal in 6 months.
You absolutely can make this BIG goal a reality and claim this year, as the year you do it in.
