Capture Their Attention On LinkedIn

That big rectangle at the top of your LinkedIn profile? That’s not just a rectangle.

That’s valuable marketing and branding real estate.

Your banner should show the reader who lands on your profile exactly what you do. It can’t do that if you use LinkedIn’s lovely but boring solid turquoise default banner.

With a well-done banner, the reader knows immediately that she’s in the right place, and is compelled to read on to learn more details.

An eye-capturing banner features …

1.        Your brand colors

2.       Your logo

3.       Two or three of your strongest keywords (this helps the search engine spiders find you for those ideal clients)

4.       Possibly an “action” shot of you if you’re a speaker

5.       The cover or titles of your book(s) if you’re an author

6.      Anything else that makes you stand out from the crowd

What you don’t need is another still photo of you. Let your profile photo do that work and use your banner as your classy billboard.

Below is my current banner. You won’t land on my profile and complain that you don’t know what I do LOL.

To take advantage of this excellent branding opportunity, have a good graphic artist help you with the positioning and layout. You’ll capture the reader’s eye and keep her reading.

Ideally, if she likes what she sees, you’ll get a call or message to find out more about you and your services.
