The Outfit Doesn’t Fit…Now What?
Have you ever gone shopping and tried on a few items and the outfit doesn’t fit like you thought it would?
Have you ever gone shopping and the pants didn’t make it past your knees or thighs? The outfit doesn’t fit so now what?
What I am hearing from clients and what I am experiencing myself is that stores, big and small, are not carrying the same number of sizes and styles. Post pandemic, some stores are hesitant to carry the same selection of styles and sizes for fear of being stuck with inventory. Some stores have even closed their brick and mortar presence.
I recently went to a local name brand store to try on a few items I saw advertised on Facebook. I saw a fabulous video by an influencer wearing and showcasing several workwear outfits and all the items looked beautiful so I figured I would go to the store to see if I could find them and try them on.
What happened next was comical. The faux leather pants I tried on did not fit and they literally stopped around my thighs. In fact, all of the items I tried on weren’t the right size so I left the store empty handed. The outfit doesn’t fit so now what?
Try on what you love in the sizes that are available to see how they fit. Is it a close fit? Could you go up one size maybe two? Then ask the store rep to order them for you, in the right size, and send them directly to you at home. Typically, the shipping will be free to you.
Another option when the outfit doesn’t fit is to try a different style and/or another brand at the same store. You could even venture out to a new store to see what they have. Different stores have different sizing and one size ten is not the same as another size ten. Sometimes, even within the same brand, there is a difference in sizing within the brand.
Yes, you read that right…different sizing within the same brand. So when the outfit doesn’t fit try on a sister size and it could be a better fit for you. Once you have stores and brands you know fit your body it will make it easier to shop those same stores and brands in the future.
